HIFF PreviewThe Hamptons International Film Festival’s Now Showing series brings first-run art house, independent, and world cinema films currently in theaters to the East End. The festival has upped the ante with Saturday’s 6 p.m. screening at Guild Hall — a sneak preview of “Late Night,” starring Emma Thompson and Mindy Kaling, which won’t have its theatrical release until June 7.Ms. Thompson plays Katherine, a legendary late-night talk show host facing low ratings and a network that wants to replace her. Accused of being a woman who hates women, she hires Molly (Ms. Kaling, who also wrote the screenplay), her first and only female staff writer, and a diversity hire to boot. In a review of the Sundance Film Festival screening, Variety’s Owen Gleiberman called the film “a light and spiky office comedy.” Tickets are $15, $13 for HIFF and Guild Hall members.Celebrating SeegerTerry Sullivan is a plumber, singer, and raconteur, and not necessarily in that order. Assuming the plumbing at Canio’s Books in Sag Harbor behaves on Saturday afternoon at 5, Mr. Sullivan will lead a sing-along in memory of Pete Seeger and his wife, Toshi, that will mix folk music and recollections liberally spiked with humor and progressive politics.“Pete loved to use slightly naughty stuff in his songs,” said Mr. Sullivan, who sang with the folk icon for 24 years. “Both Pete and Toshi had really incredible senses of humor.” Saturday’s set list will include such familiar tunes as the gospel classic “Old-Time Religion” and Woody Guthrie’s “So Long It’s Been Good to Know You,” for both of which Mr. Sullivan has composed new lyrics that add humor and political bite.LongHouse SalonThe LongHouse Reserve in East Hampton will hold this year’s Salon on the Lawn on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. Co-hosted by the LongHouse Junior Council and Keyes Gallery of Sag Harbor, the event will feature cocktails, live music, hors d’oeuvres, and an auction of unique artist-decorated serving bowls.General admission is $75, $50 for members.
