Talkhouse Heroes
The Unsung Heroes, an instrumental trio made up of Peter (Bosco) Michne, Michael LeClerc, and James Benard, will celebrate the release a debut album Friday at 8 p.m. at the Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett. Admission is $15.
The group, which cites among its influences boundary-pushing musicians such as Jaco Pastorius, George Benson, Pat Metheny, and the members of Led Zeppelin, recorded their eponymous album of 12 original tracks at MonkMusic Studios in East Hampton. Cynthia Daniels, MonkMusic’s owner, recorded, mixed, and co-produced it with the group.
The three musicians, who have performed together for more than 25 years, have played with a long list of the artists that entertain patrons of the East End’s bars, restaurants, and wineries, among them MamaLee Rose and Friends, OC/DC, Black and Sparrow, the Bobby Nathan Band, Deep Sea Revival, Sarah Conway and the Playful Souls, Jim Turner, Hurricane, Ray Red, Jettykoon, Andy Aledort and the Groove Kings, the Rum Hill Rockers, Little Head Thinks, and Marigrace Dineen. Playing in the Unsung Heroes, they say, allows a degree of expression their “regular” gigs don’t always afford.
Dance Diversity
Our Fabulous Variety Show, a nonprofit theater troupe that has created 20 productions on the East End since 2010, has issued a warning: “Rhythm is gonna get ya!” when the troupe brings a new show of tap dancing to Guild Hall this weekend.
The celebration of the history and art of tap will feature dancers including Aaron Tolson and Anita Boyer, Mr. Tolson’s tap company, Speaking in Taps, and the Dancehampton Tap Army. The show will include Broadway showstoppers, jazz, funk, modern, and classic numbers.
Performances will take place Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets cost from $20 to $45 and are available at the OFVS website.
The reign of dance will continue on Friday, May 24, when Organización Latino-Americana of Eastern Long Island and Guild Hall present “Sensaciones,” an evening of Flamenco-infused live music and dancing, at 8. The show will feature the Fox Brothers, a Spanish guitar duo from Miami, and Sonia Olla, a Flamenco dancer who choreographed Ricky Martin and Madonna’s Rebel Heart World Tour.
Tickets start at $20 and rise to $60 for V.I.P. seating and a reception before the show.
Free Garden Tours
The LongHouse Reserve in East Hampton, Bridge Gardens in Bridgehampton, and the Madoo Conservancy in Sagaponack will take part in National Public Gardens Day Friday with free one-hour guided tours of their grounds.
The day will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a tour at Bridge Gardens. The Madoo tour is scheduled for 11, and Holger Winenga, LongHouse’s new horticulturalist, will lead a circuit of its gardens at 2 as part of a full day of activities. Admission is free, but reservations are required.
National Public Gardens Day is designed to raise awareness of the important role botanical and arboreta institutions play in promoting environmental stewardship, plant and water conservation, green spaces, and education in communities nationwide.
Boyd Meets Girl
The Salon Series of classical music concerts at the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill will conclude its spring season Friday evening at 6 with a performance by Rupert Boyd, a classical guitarist from Australia, and the American cellist Laura Metcalf.
The duo, known as Boyd Meets Girl, performs a repertoire ranging from the Baroque to the present. They have toured throughout the United States, Australia, India, and Nepal, and in 2017 they released their first album on the Sono Luminus label and launched a 40-concert world tour.
Tickets are $25, $10 for members and students. A reception will follow the concert.
Jazz in Montauk
The Gil Gutierrez Jazz Trio will perform a free concert at the Montauk Library on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 as part of its current North American tour. Based in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, Mr. Gutierrez has an avid following throughout Latin America, Spain, and the United States for his performances and compositions.
The group consists of Mr. Gutierrez on guitar, Bob Stern, a Montauk resident, on jazz violin, and David Rodriguez, a Grammy and Emmy Award-nominated producer, on bass.
Ballad Makers Show
Caroline Doctorow and the Ballad Makers will perform popular standards, Americana favorites, classic fiddle tunes, and Ms. Doctorow’s original compositions at the Bridgehampton Museum’s archives building at 2539A Montauk Highway on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Ms. Doctorow has released 11 solo albums, the most recent of which, “Dreaming in Vinyl,” reached number two on the folk radio charts. She has played or recorded with a variety of prominent performers of folk and roots music and is a returning guest on the “Blue Plate Special,” the famed live radio broadcast produced and aired on WDVX from Knoxville, Tenn. Tickets are $20.
A Rising Star
The Southampton Cultural Center will be the site of a recital by Nathan Lee on Saturday at 6 p.m. for its Rising Stars piano series. Winner of first prize in the 2016 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, Mr. Lee made his New York City debut at 16 and has appeared as a soloist with the Cleveland Orchestra, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Seattle Symphony, and the Buffalo Philharmonic, among others.
Saturday’s program will include compositions by Bach, Liszt, Schumann, Beethoven, and Schulz-Evler. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door, and free for students under 21.
Bach and Beyond
The Bach Before and Beyond music series will return to the Old Whalers Church in Sag Harbor on Sunday at 3 p.m. with “Baroque at the Beach,” a program of 18th-century music.
The concert will include Handel’s Organ Concerto in F with Walter Klauss, the director of the series, as soloist, Albinoni’s Oboe Concerto in D minor featuring Terry Keevil on oboe, and Bach’s “Wedding Cantata” performed by Sharla Nafziger, a soprano. Tickets are $20 at the door or at the Romany Kramoris Gallery in Sag Harbor.
