The 17th annual OLA Film Festival, organized by the Organizacion Latino-Americana of Eastern Long Island, will include an in-person screening of "No," an award-winning 2012 Chilean film, Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill, and a free virtual showing from Guild Hall of the Disney Studios cartoon "Inside Out" on Saturday at noon.
"No," which will also be available for online streaming tomorrow through Sunday, was an Oscar nominee for best foreign film and the winner of 13 international awards. Directed by Pablo Larrain, it depicts a landmark vote that took place in Chile in 1988 when international pressure forced the dictator Augusto Pinochet to call for a referendum on whether his rule should be extended for another eight years.
Leaders of the opposition to Pinochet persuaded a young advertising executive, Rene Saavedra (Gael Garcia Bernal) to lead the campaign. With few resources and under the scrutiny of Pinochet's underlings, Mr. Saavedra and his team devised a bold plan to win the election and set Chile free.
At the Parrish, the screening of "No" will be preceded by a reception from 5:30 to 6. Tickets are $20, $10 for members, free for students. The online streaming costs $15, $10 for members.
"Inside Out," which will be shown in Spanish with English subtitles, is the story of Riley, who is uprooted from her life in the Midwest when her father takes a new job in San Francisco. Guided by a range of emotions, including fear, anger, and sadness, by focusing on joy she tries to remain positive and navigate a new city, house, and school.
Registration on Guild Hall's website must be completed by 9 a.m. on Saturday in order to receive a link.
The Sag Harbor Cinema has announced that "Virus Tropical," an animated film by Santiago Caiceido with black-and-white line drawings by Power Paola, is being presented virtually starting Saturday at 2 p.m. as part of the OLA festival. The film will be available online for 48 hours. Tickets are available from the cinema's website.
This article has been modified from its original and print version to include the screening at the Sag Harbor Cinema, which was announced after the print edition went to press.
A second modification followed the cinema's announcement that its previously announced in-person screening has been cancelled due to the recent uptick in Covid-19 cases.
