On Philanthropy
An outdoor screening of “A Passion for Giving,” a 50-minute documentary by Robin Baker Leacock, will take place on Saturday evening at 7 at the Southampton Arts Center. The film, which aired on PBS in 2009, includes interviews with philanthropists, some famous, some not, all of them dedicated to helping other people, animals, and the planet.

The screening will be preceded at 6:30 by a panel discussion with Ms. Leacock, Missy Hargraves, actress and animal activist, Jean Shafiroff, philanthropist and advocate, and Henry Buhl, founder of the charity Ace New York.

Tickets are $10, free for members. Guests have been advised to take chairs and blankets. The rain date is Monday.

Oliver Sacks Doc
“Oliver Sacks: His Own Life,” a film by Ric Burns that won the Audience Award for best documentary at last year’s Hamptons International Film Festival, is now available nationwide on the virtual cinema platforms of Kino Marquee and Film Forum.

Filmed in the months after the renowned neurologist received a diagnosis of terminal cancer at 81, “the film began with a deep immersion into a remarkable human being at a really crucial moment in his life,” Mr. Burns told The Star in an interview.

In addition to more than 80 hours of conversations with Sacks, the film uses abundant archival material and interviews with his friends and colleagues to tell the story of the doctor who is best known for his books “The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat” and “Awakenings.”

SCC Celebration
Instead of its annual fund-raising event, the Southampton Cultural Center will present a free virtual “Salute to Community Heroes,” including a montage of past cultural center performances, on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Hosted by Bonnie Grice and aired on metropolitanzoom.com, the event celebrates the courage and commitment of the community’s first responders, nurses, doctors, and other essential workers.

The program will include highlights from past Center Stage concerts and plays, a performance by Nathan Lee, an award-winning pianist; a selection of dance programs, including Cuban salsa, and samples from Boots on the Ground Theater productions, including “Sherlock’s Secret Life” and “The Miracle Worker.”

A Zoom link is on the center’s website.

North Fork TV Fest
The North Fork TV Festival, which honors independent scripted television, will take place as a drive-in event at Castello di Borghese Vineyard in Cutchogue on Oct. 17.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., food and drink will be available for purchase at 6, and the show will start at 7, with screenings of the winning pilots and conversations with the creators.

More information and tickets, which start at $20 per vehicle, are available at northfork.tv.
