An exhibition of paintings by Chris Kelly will open Saturday at Colm Rowan Fine Art in East Hampton with a reception from 4 to 7 p.m. The show will remain on view through June 20.
Mr. Kelly, an East Hampton native who recently returned to live here full time after many years in Brooklyn, will show abstract paintings created during the last year and a half with oil paint and pencil on canvas.
In a statement, he cited as inspiration the golden ratio, also called the “divine proportion” because of its frequency in the natural world. Each painting starts with a grid based on that ratio, which the artist then takes apart and reassembles into geometric compositions that reflect a limitless variety of possibilities.
Mr. Kelly, who studied painting and sculpture at Cornell University, has been included in many solo and group exhibitions and has worked on projects with interior design firms in the Bahamas and Buenos Aires, among others.
