Jazz From Brooklyn
Working in partnership with Bar Bayeux in Brooklyn and Keyed Up!, a jazz-focused New York City nonprofit, the Arts Center at Duck Creek in Springs has launched its second virtual winter concert series organized by its music director, Peter Watrous. Each live show will be videotaped in Brooklyn by Dan Carlson, and made available on the center’s website and YouTube channel within a week of the performance.

Saturday’s concert will feature the Giveton Gelin Quintet, with Mr. Gelin on trumpet and leader, Micah Thomas on piano, Zoey Abadia on saxophone, Jayla Chee on bass, and Kayvon Gordon on drums. Only 22 years old, Mr. Gelin has performed with such jazz pioneers as Curtis Lundy, Bobby Watson, Roy Hargrove, Wynton Marsalis, and Ben Wolfe.

Seeing the Unseen
“See Their Names,” an online exhibition, has been organized by Sylvester Manor and the Shelter Island Historical Society to highlight the names of African-American Shelter Island residents dating back to the 17th century.

The presence on Shelter Island of enslaved and free people of color is as important as that of the island’s residents who are well known, say the organizers. “We honor them by seeing their names and acknowledging them and their place in our history.”

The exhibition will launch on Wednesday on the websites of Sylvester Manor and the historical society. A Zoom conversation, set for Feb. 27 at 1 p.m., will focus on the research methods and how the names will be restored as part of the community’s historical narrative.

Blake and Grimm
Kate Mueth, the founder of the Neo-Political Cowgirls, and Josh Gladstone, the former artistic director of the John Drew Theater at Guild Hall, are partners in life and in “Mind on Prose,” a new series of free virtual programs from Mind Offline, whose mission is “to reconnect people with their innate drive to create.”

The series will launch on Monday at 6 p.m. with a selection of readings from the work of the visionary poet William Blake. Compiled for a Vintage Classics volume by the singer-songwriter Patti Smith, the poems will be read by Ms. Mueth and Mr. Gladstone live on Mind Offline’s Instagram page. Registration at mindoffline.co is recommended.

Two programs for Zoom will feature the duo reading selections from “Grimm’s Fairy Tales,” available Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. from Feb. 19 through March 12, and the writings of Shel Silverstein, Fridays at 4 p.m. from Feb. 25 through March 18.

Registration via the website is required for receipt of the Zoom details and materials associated with each session.
