Tickets are now on sale for the revival of the marriage comedy "Plaza Suite" at the Hudson Theatre in Manhattan. Starring the Amagansett part-time residents Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker, who are married in real life, the Neil Simon play was originally scheduled to begin previews on Broadway on March 13, 2020, before Covid-19 forced the closure of all New York City theaters the day before.
The play had been performed to sold-out crowds in Boston for a short run just prior to its initially scheduled New York production. But the short engagement and the illnesses of both stars kept reviews to a bare minimum. Two years later, it has the same core team, including John Benjamin Hickey as director. The supporting cast consists of Danny Bolero, Molly Ranson, and Eric Wiegand.
This production marks the first time the couple has been onstage together on Broadway since they starred in "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" in 1995. Mr. Broderick came to early prominence and won his first Tony Award for his performance in Simon's "Brighton Beach Memoirs." He also starred in the sequel, "Biloxi Blues."
"Plaza Suite" opened on Broadway in 1968 with Mike Nichols directing George C. Scott and Maureen Stapleton in the starring roles as three different couples acting out the funny and all too human aspects of marriage and love.
Previews begin Friday, Feb. 25, and regular performances begin March 28. Tickets are available through the show or theater's website.
