A political thriller by a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and a private viewing of a blue-chip art collection are on the agenda when Bay Street Theater flies to Naples, Fla., on April 3.
Actually, the theater remains in Sag Harbor, but it is offering two days of cultural entertainment, starting on April 3 with tickets to a matinee performance at the Gulfshore Playhouse in Naples of Ayad Akhtar’s play “The Invisible Hand.”
When it played at the New York Theatre Workshop in 2014, “The Invisible Hand” won Obie and Outer Critics Circle awards. Charles Isherwood of The New York Times said the play “raises probing questions about the roots of the Islamic terrorism that has rattled the world for the last decade and more.”
At a reception and dinner after the performance, Kristen Coury, the founding executive director of the playhouse, will moderate a discussion about the process of building a new theater, in which both Gulfshore and Bay Street are involved.
A private viewing of the art collection of Patty and Jay Baker will follow on April 4 at the Baker Museum at Artis-Naples. The collection includes works by Monet, Leger, Matisse, Henry Moore, and Chuck Close, to name only a few. The visit will be followed by a reception and dinner.
Tickets are $1,000, which includes all ticketing, private receptions and tours, one lunch, two dinners, and gratuities, as well as a $500 donation to Bay Street Theater. Travel and hotel accommodations are not included. More information is available by email to [email protected] or by phone at 631-725-0818.
And Back at Home
The Floyd Concept, a Pink Floyd tribute band, will perform live at Bay Street on Saturday at 8 p.m. During the two-hour show the band will perform “Money,” “Wish You Were Here,” “Another Brick in the Wall,” and popular album cuts. The production duplicates the sight and sound of a live Pink Floyd performance.
Band members are Tom Bender, lead vocals and guitar; Dan Bird, percussion; Michael Digaetano, keyboards; Ron LoCurto and Geno McManus, guitar and vocals; Jack Prybylski, multiple instruments, and Paul Yates, bass. Tickets are $35.
Bay Street Theater has been named a finalist for the Claire Friedlander Arts & Culture Award in the 10th annual Long Island Imagine Awards, which acknowledge the region’s most effective and innovative nonprofit organizations in five categories: social impact, leadership excellence, innovation, rising star, and arts and culture.
The theater is one of four finalists across Long Island for the arts and culture award. Winners will be announced on April 26.
