The Watermill Center has awarded residencies and fellowships for 2022 to 21 artists from France, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Spain, and Taiwan, as well as from Connecticut, Illinois, New York, Pennsylvania, and Texas. The participants will be provided with the time, space, and creative freedom to develop their projects.
Residents include Ville Andersson, Kader Attia, Eli Berman, Brian Block, Marie de Testa, Nile Harris, Joyce Ho, Amanda Johnston, Adam Lenz, Miki Orihara, Maria Louizou, Nicoletta Favari, Christopher Salvito, Matthew Randle-Bent, Helen Betya Rubinstein, Hank Willis Thomas, STUDIOTASSY, Ogemdi Ude, Netta Yerushalmy, and the collectives For Freedoms and KOR’SIA.
Inga Maren Otto Fellowships, which provide support for outstanding visual artists, have been awarded to Mr. Andersson, Mr. Attia, Mr. Thomas, and For Freedoms.
New this year is the Baroness Nina von Maltzahn Fellowship for the Performing Arts, which supports artists working in performance, music, and dance. The recipients are Mr. Harris, Ms. Ho, and KOR’SIA.
The center’s residency partners include the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill, where work by For Freedoms and Hank Willis Thomas will be featured in its summer Platform series.
YoungArts: The National Foundation for the Advancement of Artists will support the residency of Mr. Berman, a YoungArts alumnus, who will receive mentorship from the center’s network of international artists.
The residents are selected by a panel of accomplished professionals for their creative ability and the artistic vision of their proposed projects, which will be developed during their residencies. Both fellowships have individual panels that select artists nominated by friends of the center.
During each residency, artists present their work to the public as part of In Process @ the Watermill Center, an ongoing series of open rehearsals and studio visits.
