Open Studios
Ville Andersson, a visual artist from Finland, and Passepartout Duo, a pair of Italian musicians, are up next in the Watermill Center’s In Process series of open studios and rehearsals by its resident artists. They will present their work in progress on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
Mr. Andersson will work on "Desert Music," a body of ink and pencil drawings that explore the stoneworks and sculptures displayed throughout the center’s building and grounds.
Passepartout Duo consists of Nicoletta Favari, a pianist, and Christopher Salvito, a percussionist. While at the center they will explore the creation of new electronic interfaces for the project "Reconfigured Landscapes," combining research on textile fibers with electronic synthesis.
The program is free, but pre-registration has been recommended. Attendees must present proof of vaccination during check-in.
Dance Group Honors Sheroes
The choreographer Catherine Galasso and her company, who performed two evenings of dance at Guild Hall last summer, have returned as the venue’s William P. Rayner artists-in-residence to develop "City of Wom_n," a dance work that "reclaims New York City’s Sheroes." The group will be in residence through Sunday.
The finished piece will be a theatrical tapestry of loose portraits of women who lived, worked, and made names for themselves in New York City from the 17th to the 20th century, among them Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm, the prima ballerina Maria Tallchief, the Native American poet Diane Burns, and Christine Jorgensen, the first celebrity trans woman.
