Beatboxing is a musical art form that uses the vocal tract to mimic percussion and other sound effects. Since its origins in New York with the hip-hop culture of the 1970s and '80s, beatboxing has become more widespread in mainstream culture, a cappella singing groups, and even as a stand-alone art form.
Guild Hall and LTV will bring "The Missing Element," an immersive experience featuring the world champion beatboxers of Brooklyn's Beatbox House, as well as leading street dancers, to Wainscott on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Direct from its premiere at Works & Process at the Guggenheim Museum, the performance opens with a live D.J. set by FlyKai, an East Hampton native, and continues with movement, music, and sound.
The Beatbox House is made up of five members. Through performance, education, and community-building, the collective is pushing the boundaries of what's possible with the human voice.
“The virtuosic beat boxing, and krump, flex, and break dancing that come together in performances of 'The Missing Element' are rigorous and miraculously nimble,” said Duke Dang, executive director of Works & Process.
Tickets are $75, $67 for Guild Hall members. Doors will open at 6:30.
