Butler Speaks
Michael A. Butler, a Sag Harbor artist whose work is included in Guild Hall's artist-members exhibition, will be there on Monday at 4 p.m. to discuss his work with Melanie Crader, the cultural center's director of visual arts.

The talk will focus on the evolution of Mr. Butler's work and its recurring themes of imagined representations of underrecognized peoples, often based on scarce written documentation. The artist has described himself as a self-taught, narrative folk artist.

Guild Hall's monthly Lunch Break, a series of short discussions led by Anthony Madonna, its director of learning and new works, will center on the members exhibition, on Friday at noon. Participants can join staff members for lunch after the talk.

Admission to both programs is pay-what-you-wish, starting at $5.

Native Long Island
Jeremy Dennis, a Shinnecock artist whose photography explores Indigenous identity, cultural assimilation, and the ancestral practices of his tribe, will discuss and sign copies of  the second edition of his book "On This Site -- Native Long Island," on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Leiber Collection in Springs.

First published in 2017 and updated in August, "On This Site" aims to preserve and create awareness of culturally significant Native American locations on Long Island through Mr. Dennis's 2016 photo series and narrative.

"My hope is to create curiosity for all audiences, as it creates a dialogue between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people on Long Island and legitimizes the Long Island Indigenous population beyond their borders on reservations," says Mr. Dennis.

Film, Art, Jewelry
The Stella Flame Gallery in Bridgehampton will host a "holiday soiree" on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. In addition to Ms. Flame's jewelry, the evening will include a screening of "Jack, Larger Than Life," a short film about Jack Lenor Larsen, the founder of East Hampton's LongHouse Reserve, as well as the opening of an exhibition of small artworks, a selection of cashmere sweaters handmade in Italy, and the launch of a collection of Dale Novick’s jewelry. The gallery is also collecting toys for Heart of the Hamptons.

The Sweet Smell of Nostalgia at Sagaponack General

Stepping into the new Sagaponack General Store, which reopened yesterday after being closed since 2020, is a sweet experience, and not just because there’s a soft-serve ice cream station on the left and what promises to be the biggest penny candy selection on the South Fork on your right, but because it’s like seeing an old friend who, after some struggle, made it big. Really, really big.
