The Suffolk Theater
The Suffolk Theater in Riverhead will show its range this weekend, starting Friday evening at 8 with "A Classical Christmas" featuring the Long Island Concert Orchestra, and continuing Saturday at 8 with the Lords of 52nd Street paying tribute to Billy Joel.

Tomorrow's program is the theater's first-ever evening of classical music. The 30-piece orchestra will bring the spirit of Christmas to the theater with classic holiday tunes from Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker," Handel's "Messiah," Beethoven's "Choral Fantasy," Nicola Campogrande's "Concerto for audience and orchestra," and R. Vaughan Williams's "Greensleeves."

Tickets range from $59 to $79 plus fees.

After having performed Billy Joel's greatest hits for years, the Lords of 52nd Street have prepared a new show featuring his "Nylon Curtain" album from 1982, as well as other hits. The band's members, Richie Cannata, Liberty DeVito, and Russell Javors, have been connected to the Piano Man ever since the mid-1970s, when his bass player, Doug Stegmeyer, recommended that Mr. DeVito and Mr. Javors begin to rehearse with him.

They joined him in the studio to record his 1976 album "Turnstiles." Mr. Joel's subsequent search for a saxophone player led him to Mr. Cannata, who joined the others for the recording of "New York State of Mind." A tribute band can't get more authentic than that.

Tickets range from $49 to $59.

Stephen Talkhouse
Coming up at the Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett on Friday are the Cherry Bombs at 8 p.m. and D.J. Flykai at 10. The Hitman Blues Band will take the stage on Saturday at 8, followed by Little Head Thinks at 10. Tickets and more information can be found on the venue's website.

The Masonic Music Series
While the series is on hold until January, the Jam Session's weekly show of live jazz starts at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Masonic Temple in Sag Harbor. Tickets are $20.

The Sweet Smell of Nostalgia at Sagaponack General

Stepping into the new Sagaponack General Store, which reopened yesterday after being closed since 2020, is a sweet experience, and not just because there’s a soft-serve ice cream station on the left and what promises to be the biggest penny candy selection on the South Fork on your right, but because it’s like seeing an old friend who, after some struggle, made it big. Really, really big.
