A concert by Llewellyn Sanchez-Werner, a classical pianist, will open the 2023 season of the Shelter Island Friends of Music on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Shelter Island Presbyterian Church. He will perform works by Schumann, Liszt, Chopin, Carlos Chavez, and Stravinsky.

The winner of first prize in the 2022 Concert Artists Guild Competition, Mr. Sanchez-Werner performed at President Barack Obama's second inauguration and was honored in 2013 as a Gilmore Young Artist, which is awarded to the most promising American pianists of the new generation.

Admission is free; a reception will follow the performance.
