"Saul Steinberg | Material of Interest: Drawings, Paintings, Objects, Prints" is at the Drawing Room in East Hampton through May 21 in collaboration with the Saul Steinberg Foundation.
The exhibition includes work by the prolific artist dating from 1945 through 1995. From early ink drawings to landscapes in watercolor and oil, each composition reflects Steinberg's unique approach to image making.
Several sculptural works on wood typify the elements he used in his "Drawing Table" reliefs from the 1970s, upright compositions filled with carved and painted trompe-l'oeil wood objects.
While some works on view have been widely exhibited and published, others are being shown for the first time.
And Steinberg's first exhibition in Seoul, South Korea, is on view at Pace Gallery there through April 29. It includes works on paper and wood sculptures that convey his humor, curiosity, and worldly perspective, which was shaped by his experiences as an immigrant in the United States, a New Yorker, and a sharp-eyed traveler.
