Afro-Colombian Music at Duck Creek

The summer music series at the Arts Center at Duck Creek in Springs will open with a program by La Manga devoted to Afro-Colombian music.

The 2023 Music Series at the Arts Center at Duck Creek in Springs will kick off Sunday at 4 p.m., with a talk, workshop, and performance by La Manga, a Brooklyn-based collective inspired by the spirit of the modern and ancestral peoples of the Colombian Caribbean coast.

The program will begin with a 30-minute introduction to Afro-Colombian oral traditions and a workshop where audience members will learn to play the traditional rhythm of Colombian cumbia using only their voices and bodies. A 90-minute performance will follow. 

La Manga has performed at Lincoln Center, Joe's Pub, MoMA PS1, and the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music.

The music series is organized by Adam O'Farrill, a composer and trumpeter.
