Boxing, poetry, Indian drumming, jazz, and a writing workshop are on the calendar of The Church in Sag Harbor this week.
On Saturday at 6 p.m., Sara Cochran and Eric Fischl, co-curators of the exhibition "Strike Fast, Dance Lightly: Artists on Boxing," will discuss their curatorial process as they lead a tour of the show.
After the tour, Philip Schultz, a Pulitzer Prize-winning poet, will read selections from his memoir "Comforts of The Abyss," one of which involves boxing with Norman Mailer and arm-wrestling with Jose Torres.
The evening will continue with a conversation among Ms. Cochran, Mr. Fischl, and Mr. Schultz, who will consider the emotional tension evoked by the exhibition and the varied interpretations of boxing in contemporary art. A reception will follow.
Tickets are $25, $20 for members.
Sejal Kukadia, one of the few female masters of the tabla, a pair of hand drums and the principal percussion instrument of Hindustani classical music, will conduct an introductory drumming workshop on Sunday at 2 p.m. on the lawn of The Church. Ms. Kukadia is one of the founding members of the Taalim School of Indian Music and a member of Divahn, a Middle Eastern Sephardic band.
Tickets to "Journey Into Tabla" are $35, $15 for students. In the event of rain, the workshop will happen inside the building.
Hamptons Jazz Fest will bring the Mafalda Minnozzi Quinet, featuring guitar and musical direction by Paul Ricci, to The Church next Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Ms. Minnozzi, an Italian vocalist, and Mr. Ricci, who have performed together extensively in the United States, Europe, and Brazil, count Harry Belafonte, Bobby Sanabria, and Astrud Gilberto among their collaborators.
Ms. Minnozzi and her band will perform excerpts from both her upcoming album, "Natural Impression," and her previous Brazilian CD, "Sensorial."

Star Black, a published poet, photographer, and visual artist, will lead "Writing From Art: Poetry, Prose, and the Lyric Essay," a two-session workshop next Thursday and on Aug. 31, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The workshop will focus on the Greek idea of Ekphrasis, defined as "the use of detailed description of a work of visual art as a literary device." Participants, taking their inspiration from "Artists on Boxing," will create texts that detail their reactions to selected works in the exhibition.
The workshop will be limited to 18 participants. A notebook and pen or pencil are the only required materials.
The fee is $30 for both sessions.
