"Godzilla" in NoHo
The collective known as Godzilla: Asian American Arts Network was formed in 1990 to support the production of critical discourse around Asian American art and increase the visibility of Asian American artists, curators, and writers.
Eric Firestone Gallery will open "Godzilla: Echoes From the 1990s Asian American Arts Network," an exhibition of work by 39 artists who showed in Godzilla-organized exhibitions, on Wednesday at its NoHo outposts at 4 and 40 Great Jones Street.
The show, curated by Jennifer Samet, includes the work of established artists as well as those who have not been highlighted in the canon. While centered on a network, it will look at individual artists and their stylistic development since their involvement with Godzilla, which was active until 2001.
An opening reception will be held Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Copyright and A.I.
Rebecca Blake, an artists’ advocate and a board member of the American Society for Collective Rights Licensing, will lead a Zoom presentation on the basics of copyright, updated for A.I., on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
The talk will cover artists’ rights and how they can protect their work by leveraging their copyrights. It will also explain the implications of generative A.I. in copyright and what the current debates on copyright and A.I. mean for artists.
Online registration is available until Tuesday via the Graphic Artists Guild website.
