Sag Harbor's Bay Street Theater will kick off the new year with a flourish on Saturday, starting at 12:55 p.m. with Giuseppe Verdi's "Nabucco," the next offering from The Met: Live in HD, and cranking up the volume with the return of the Fireside Sessions With Nancy Atlas at 8.

Premiered in 1842, the success of Verdi's third opera, a drama about the fall of ancient Jerusalem at the hands of Nebuchadnezzar (Nabucco), brought international fame to the composer.

George Gagnidze stars as the imperious king, Nabucco, with Liudmyla Monastyrska as his vengeful daughter. Other stars are Maria Barakova, SeokJong Baek, and Dmitry Belosselskiy.

"Elijah Moshinsky's production has an old-school, 1980s throwback charm, with its imposing, multiuse unit set that turns on the Met's revolving stage," Oussama Zahr wrote in The New York Times, also praising Daniele Callegari, the conductor, for bringing "richness, panache, and stylistic cogency" to the opera.

Tickets are $35.

The Fireside Sessions are a January tradition at Bay Street, and tickets sell out quickly. Saturday will be Rockabilly Blues Night, with Eugene Chrysler and Pamela Betti as guest artists. Subsequent shows, all set for 8 p.m., will feature Randi Fishenfeld, a violin virtuoso (Jan. 13), a jam night with "multiple local favorites" (Jan. 20), and Runaway R&R with the Realm and Nancy Atlas (Jan. 27).

All shows will feature Ms. Atlas's band, including Johnny Blood on electric guitar, Brett King on bass, Denny McDermott on drums, Joe Delia on keyboards, and Greg McMullen on pedal steel guitar.

Tickets are $37 and $47 in advance, $47 and $57 the day of the show.

The Sweet Smell of Nostalgia at Sagaponack General

Stepping into the new Sagaponack General Store, which reopened yesterday after being closed since 2020, is a sweet experience, and not just because there’s a soft-serve ice cream station on the left and what promises to be the biggest penny candy selection on the South Fork on your right, but because it’s like seeing an old friend who, after some struggle, made it big. Really, really big.
