A fund-raiser for "Ahoy!", Julian Alvarez's swashbuckling fairy tale, will happen at the Sag Harbor Cinema.

Sneak Peek
The Sag Harbor Cinema will hold a fund-raiser on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the short film "Ahoy!" by Julian Alvarez, who is from Wainscott and co-directed "Forgotten Founders: David Hempstead, Senior." "Forgotten Founders" tied for best short at last year’s Hamptons International Film Festival.

Mr. Alvarez describes "Ahoy!" as a "swashbuckling fairy tale dealing with harsh realities of our uncertain environmental future through the eyes of a young boy destined for adventure." The fund-raiser will include a sneak peek of the film as well as coffee, pastries, and an art auction.

Gardening Tips
The next lecture from the Horticultural Alliance of the Hamptons will feature Dan Benarcik, a gardener and writer who will talk about -- take a breath -- "Design Principles of the Pros That Can Be Applied to the Home Landscape." He will speak at the Bridgehampton Community House on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Since 1993, Mr. Benarcik has been at Chanticleer Garden in Wayne, Pa., where he oversees the courtyard gardens with an emphasis on tropical, subtropical, and tender perennials for seasonal display. His talk will provide both beginner and advanced gardeners with tips.

Mr. Benarcik has written for Martha Stewart Living, Horticulture, Fine Gardening, and Midwest Living, and his one-acre home garden has been featured in several books.

Tickets are $10, free for members.
