Christopher Engel’s “MO MA,” mixed-media on paper, can be seen at the Romany Kramoris Gallery in Sag Harbor.

Dance and Photography

In conjunction with “A Creative Retreat — Portraits of Artists,” Guild Hall’s current exhibition, Mark Mann, an exhibiting artist, will discuss his project “Movement at the Still Point” on Sunday at 2 p.m. He will be joined by Jose Sebastian, artistic director of the Hamptons Dance Project, Klassic Carella, a flexn dancer, and Anthony Madonna, Guild Hall’s director of learning and new works.

“Movement at the Still Point” is a collection of images that capture the dynamism and energy of both dance and photography. Mr. Mann installed a backdrop of painterly muslin in his Manhattan studio and invited dancers from many genres there to perform and discuss their feelings about the art form.

Copies of the book, published by Rizzoli International Publications, will be available for purchase, and a signing by Mr. Mann and the artists will follow the program.

Tickets are $15, $10 for members, $80.18 including the book, or $75.18 for members.

At Firestone in NoHo

East Hampton’s Eric Firestone Gallery is having a particularly busy week at its outposts on Great Jones Street in NoHo. “That ‘70s Show,” a joint project in which 19 New York galleries present the work of one or two artists who were active during that decade, opens today at the Eric Firestone Loft, 4 Great Jones Street, with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. It will continue through Sunday.

To the east, two shows can be seen at 40 Great Jones Street. “No Man’s Land,” a solo exhibition of paintings by Lauren dela Roche, includes monumental paintings, some up to 14 feet wide, fabricated from found, mended, and repurposed cotton feed sacks that give the works a complex tactility.

“Love Song,” a show of painted and collaged forms by Cato, a multidisciplinary artist based in London, expresses the energy of the city, Black culture, and relationships among musicians, couples, and friends.

Both exhibitions will continue through June 15

"High Fever" by Josh Dayton

Josh Dayton Solo

A solo exhibition of paintings by Josh Dayton can be seen at Ashawagh Hall in Springs from tomorrow through Sunday, with a reception set for Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. The works on view will be acrylic and paper on canvas and watercolors on paper.

An East Hampton resident, Mr. Dayton has been inspired by the history of abstract painting on the East End and its landscape.

Archetypal Imagery

“Looking Back Looking Forward,” a show of paintings by Christopher Engel, opens today at the Romany Kramoris Gallery in Sag Harbor and continues through May 23.

Mr. Engel blends figurative and abstract imagery, using expressive brushstrokes and a lively interplay of colors. Inspired by the writing and imagery of Carl Jung, he depicts archetypal images of the collective unconscious.

A reception will be held on May 11 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Photography and More

An exhibition of work by Anthony Lombardo, a photographer and artist, can be seen at the Southampton Cultural Center through May 20. In addition to the photography he is known for, the show will include new and older photos that have rarely been exhibited, woodcut prints influenced by his love of Japanese woodblock prints, custom fishing lures, and traditional skin-on-frame Greenland-style kayaks.

The photographs include black-and-white images of local water scenes, images based on the cosmos featuring the Milky Way and star trails over landscapes, and photos of tattooed women.

A reception will take place on Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m., and Mr. Lombardo will be at the gallery on weekends from noon to 4 for the duration of the show.
