The Church will welcome Masayo Ishigure, a renowned musician and Koto player, for a performance with her students on Sunday morning at 11:30. The Sag Harbor venue is presenting the program in its studio space in collaboration with Sen restaurant, to celebrate Sen's 30th anniversary.
An integral part of Japanese culture, the Koto is a stringed instrument whose roots date back to the seventh century B.C. Guests will have an opportunity after the performance to ask questions and learn more about the instrument.
After the show, Ms. Ishigure will join the Japanese Matsuri Festival, a daylong celebration of Japanese culture, at Sen.
Tickets are $25, $20 for members.
Looking ahead, The Church has planned a day trip to the North Fork on June 15 that will focus on art, creativity, and nature. The day will begin with coffee and a snack at 8:30, after which participants will depart by bus or boat from Sag Harbor.
The first stop, at 10:30, is the Catalano Dairy Farm in Southold, a small goat farm that produces award-winning goat cheese. Visitors can explore the property and set up alongside Eric Fischl and April Gornik to sketch animals, plants, or flowers, using the farm as a catalyst for creativity. All supplies will be provided; goat-cuddling will be an option.
After a seated lunch at Noah's in Greenport, a celebrated farm-to-table restaurant, the tour will move to the Landcraft Garden Foundation in Mattituck, where sculpture by Jose Pardo is on view. A private visit to the garden and studio of the artist Ugo Rondinone will follow.
The final stop, at 4:45, will be Mattituck Mushrooms for a tour, open sketching, and a visit with its proprietors (and artists), Agathe Snow and Anthony Holbrooke. The group will depart for Sag Harbor by bus, with an expected arrival time of 7.
For those choosing travel by boat in the morning, tickets are $500, $450 for members of The Church, and $400 for Innovators. The tariff for round trip by bus is $450, $400, and $350.
