For Haiti, LongHouse, the Center

Tue, 07/16/2024 - 13:02
At left, Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr., seen with Gov. Kathy Hochul, will be honored at the Bridgehampton Child Care and Recreational Center’s summer benefit. At right, Ted Morency, who raises money for Wings Over Haiti, Jonathan Glynn, founder of the charity, Arthur Bijur, its co-director, Coco Myers, organizer of the event’s art auction, and Magalie Theodore, far right, a Haitian and a partner, will attend this year’s Hamptons Artists for Haiti fund-raiser.

LongHouse Reserve, Wings Over Haiti, and the Bridgehampton Child Care & Recreational Center will hope for relief from the recent heat wave when they hold their 2024 fund-raising events on Saturday.

LongHouse will celebrate the “power and wonder of imagination” by honoring Kenny Scharf for his contributions to pop culture and his celebration of comics, amusement, and the underground, and Tony Bechara for his dynamic paintings and a life devoted to promoting Latin culture in the arts.

The evening will begin at 6 with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, an art auction organized by Pamela Willoughby featuring works by 60 artists, and entertainment, followed by dinner. The tribute to the honorees will happen at 8, and an after-party with desserts, a D.J., and dancing, will follow from 9 to 11.

Tickets are $1,500, $175 for the dance party only, and $500 for valet parking.

The seventh annual Hamptons Artists for Haiti benefit will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the East Hampton Airport. The event supports Wings Over Haiti, a charity dedicated to building schools and providing essential resources for Haitian schoolchildren.

The highlight of the evening is a silent auction of more than 50 artworks, organized by Coco Myers of Folioeast. Every dollar raised will go directly to supporting the children of Haiti.

The event, which will honor Donna Karan for her longstanding support of Haiti, will also feature music by D.J. Carlos Lama, catering by Sel Rrose of Montauk, and wine, cocktails, and stories from the Wings Over Haiti team.

Tickets are $195 in advance, $225 at the door. Kids under 12 are free.

The third annual Jazz Soul Celebration to benefit the Bridgehampton Child Care & Recreational Center will bring the music of New Orleans there from 5 to 10 p.m.

Held for the first time under a tent, the benefit will honor Assemblyman Fred Thiele, who announced his retirement from the New York State Assembly in February after having served there since 1995.

“I am humbled by their decision to honor me at this year’s Jazz Soul Celebration,” said Assemblyman Thiele. “Although I will be completing my career in elected office at the end of the year, my commitment to the center will never wane. They will always have my support.”

In addition to food, wines from Wolffer Estate Vineyard, beer from the Montauk Brewing Company, and a silent auction, the Grammy Award-winning Hot 8 Brass Band, based in New Orleans, will perform a mix of traditional jazz and funk, hip-hop, rap, and “bounce,” a NOLA style of hip-hop.

Tickets are $500, $250 for the dance party only, with music my D.J. Trife.
