Noting that 2024 marks the 100th anniversary of Surrealism, the Arts Center at Duck Creek in Springs has decided that its second annual DRAWaTHON fund-raiser would be inspired by the Exquisite Corpse, a game popularized by Surrealists such as Max Ernst and Andre Breton in the 1930s.
The arts center has invited more than 100 artists to work in groups of three on Corpse drawings. The idea is that each artist executes one section of a three-part creation, which folds up envelope-size so that one artist can’t see the drawings made by the other two. The collaborative drawings are priced at $250.
The benefit event and preview, set for tomorrow from 5 to 7:30 p.m. with a rain date of Sunday, same hours, will honor Peter Van Scoyoc, the former East Hampton Town supervisor, who oversaw the support that brought the arts center to fruition.
Priced at $150, tickets include early access to the exhibition of collaborative drawings, made by such artistic trios as Randall Rosenthal, Sally Richardson, and Jennifer Cross; Peter Spacek, Anni Spacek, and Alison Seiffer; David Slater, Elisca Jeansonne, and Dominick Castano, and Jack Ceglic, Sue McNally, and Maria Schon.
The evening will include hors d’oeuvres from Harbor Market, live music by Iris Ornig, and drinks from Stonecrop Wines and Springs Brewery. Funds from ticket and artwork sales will benefit the venue’s free programming next year.
The artworks will also be available for viewing and purchase on Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m.
