Heilmann and Latin Heritage
The Parrish Art Museum, in collaboration with the Hamptons International Film Festival, will host a screening of “Mary Heilmann: Waves, Roads & Hallucinations,” a documentary directed by Matt Creed about the acclaimed artist, on Friday at 6 p.m. The film had its world premiere in last year’s festival.
A question-and-answer session with Jacqueline Sischy, the film’s producer, will follow, and the evening will conclude with a light reception and the unveiling of the poster designed by Ms. Heilmann for the festival’s upcoming 32nd iteration.
Tickets are $20, $18 for senior citizens, $15 for members’ guests, $13 for members, $10 for students, and $5 for children.
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the museum, in partnership with We Are All Human, will host “Hispanics in Art,” a free event, on Saturday from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
The evening will include a cocktail reception, a showcase of the private collection of Mitchell Kaneff and Bret Stephens, the New York Times columnist, and a panel discussion with Mr. Stephens, Monica Ramirez-Montagut, the museum’s executive director, and Claudia Romo Edelman, founder and C.E.O. of We Are All Human, a nonprofit dedicated to the advancement of diversity and inclusion.
Photorealism in Springs
“When Things Try to Melt,” a solo exhibition of paintings by Nick Farhi, is at the Fireplace Project in Springs through Sept. 16. A photorealist, Mr. Farhi’s exhibition will include images of ice cream, pianos, and vintage glassware.
“Farhi’s creative process involves a dynamic interplay between visual research, drawing from sources such as found imagery and autobiographical photography, and an innate intuition for figuration,” according to the Stems Gallery in Brussels, which represents him. “Through his use of mark-making and abstract symbologies, he delivers nuanced reflections on daily life, offering diverse perspectives on the human experience.”
Metoyer at Tripoli
“Speaking in Tongues, Part 2,” a show of new work by Angelbert Metoyer, will open at Tripoli Gallery in Wainscott on Friday and continue through Sept. 30. A reception will be held on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Working in a variety of mediums, Mr. Metoyer has developed his craft and aesthetic over the years. Some of his new paintings reveal his interests, struggles, and triumphs through his process and stylization of surface. His vision is primarily abstract, but occasionally likenesses emerge through brushstrokes and mark-making, “as if conjured by something beyond consciousness,” says the gallery.
Part 1 of the exhibition, co-organized by Tripoli Gallery and 1LoveFestival, was held at MUSE in Winston-Salem, N.C. in June.
Ben Fenske Solo
Ben Fenske’s 17th annual solo exhibition at Grenning Gallery in Sag Harbor opens Thursday with a reception from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and will continue through Sept. 22.
Mr. Fenske, who lives and works in Tuscany, paints everyday subjects: a sumptuous lunch setting, pretty flowers, a woman reading a book or walking along the Tuscan hills. These seemingly simple images are energized by the artist’s use of urgent, slapdash brushstrokes and vibrant colors.
In addition, he searches for the interesting light effect that the atmosphere may create, whether it be a foggy morning with a storm on the horizon or a blindingly bright sunny afternoon.
Triple Play at the Depot
“Triple A,” an exhibition of work by Annie Sessler, Alison Seiffer, and A.G. Duggan, opens Thursday at the Depot Gallery in Montauk and will remain on view through Sept. 9.
While Ms. Sessler is well known for her Japanese fish prints, the exhibition will focus on her paintings and mixed-media works. An award-winning illustrator, Ms. Seiffer will be represented by a new series of paintings. Ms. Duggan’s mixed-media drawings feature elements of the natural environment, including trees and landscapes.
A reception will be held Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m.
Harry Benson in Southampton
Harry Benson, the award-winning Scottish photojournalist who was the subject of a retrospective last summer at the Southampton Arts Center, will return to that village this weekend for book signings and an exhibition at Contessa Gallery.
At receptions on Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mr. Benson will sign copies of “The Beatles: On The Road 1964-1966.” An exhibition of more than 32 photographs will remain on view at the gallery through Sept. 30. A percentage of sales will benefit the Southampton Arts Center.
This article has been modified from its print version to include the book signings by Harry Benson, which were announced after the paper went to press.
