The Church launched its Power of Poetry series on National Poetry Day in October, with a collection of poems inspired by the creative visionaries depicted in the building’s windows.

The Sag Harbor cultural center’s second iteration, “Verse 2 — An Ode to ‘Some Odes,’ ” set for Sunday at 2 p.m., draws from the poetry of three acclaimed writers, Paul Auster, Denis Johnson, and Sharon Olds, all of whom are featured in the current exhibition “Some Odes: Sam Messer With Paul Auster, Eleanor Gaver, Denis Johnson, and Sharon Olds.”

The series of read-ins invites community members to celebrate poetry and the beauty of words. Those interested in reading from the curated selection of poems have been asked to purchase a ticket first. After checkout, a link to the “request to read’ ” form will appear. A Church staff member will respond with the next steps.

Tickets are $10, free for members who R.S.V.P.

The Church has also announced a grant from the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation for its forthcoming exhibition “Eternal Testament,” which is being organized by Jeremy Dennis and Meranda Roberts for a March 22 opening.

The foundation, established in 1987, primarily supports the study of Long Island history and its role in the national experience. “Eternal Testament,” which will feature works by native artists regionally and from across the country, reaffirms that Sag Harbor occupies the traditional homelands of the Montaukett and Shinnecock Nations.

Other recipients of the foundation’s 2024 grants include Raynham Hall Museum in Oyster Bay, the Jewish Historical Society of Long Island, the Long Island Maritime Museum, the New York Historical Society, the Nassau County Museum of Art, the Cooper Union, and the Sag Harbor History Museum.

The Sweet Smell of Nostalgia at Sagaponack General

Stepping into the new Sagaponack General Store, which reopened yesterday after being closed since 2020, is a sweet experience, and not just because there’s a soft-serve ice cream station on the left and what promises to be the biggest penny candy selection on the South Fork on your right, but because it’s like seeing an old friend who, after some struggle, made it big. Really, really big.
