Artists Onscreen

Founded by Sophie Chahinian, a filmmaker, the Artist Profile Archive is a collection of short-form documentary films featuring some of today’s foremost contemporary artists. The 38 artists profiled so far include Alice Aycock, Eric Fischl, Ralph Gibson, Sheree Hovsepian, Robert Longo, Shirin Neshat, and Arcmanoro Niles.

Clips from the 39th in the series, “Pictures of Pictures: The Metro Years,” a feature-length documentary about Metro Pictures Gallery, will be shown at Guild Hall on Sunday at 7 p.m., along with scenes from other profiles in the archive.

The screening will be followed by a conversation with Ms. Chahinian, Mr. Longo, Mr. Niles, and Kelly Taxter, the deputy director of Artists Space. Tickets are $25, $22.50 for members.

Two other programs at Guild Hall, the SummerDocs screening of Mariska Hargitay’s film “My Mom Jayne” (tonight at 7) and Candace Bushnell’s “The True Tales of Sex, Success, and Sex and the City” (tomorrow at 8 p.m.), are sold out.

Marionette Workshop

The Leiber Collection in Springs will host Animated by Art, a four-part marionette-making workshop, starting Sunday at 4 p.m. and continuing on successive Sundays through Aug. 17.

Led by Kim Profaci of the Modern Marionette Company, the series offers participants a chance to explore the world of puppetry, which brings together fine art, fashion, and performance. More information is available on the Leiber Collection’s website.

Concert on the Rock

As part of the Shelter Island Friends of Music’s 2025 season, Sam Reider, an acclaimed composer, pianist, and accordionist, and The Human Hands, his ensemble, will perform at the Shelter Island Presbyterian Church on Sunday at 6 p.m.

Mr. Reider is a Latin Grammy nominee whose work brings together various streams of American music, from jazz and folk to popular songs and contemporary compositions. He has appeared as a bandleader and soloist at major festivals and venues around the world.

The Human Hands is a collective of acoustic musicians who explore the crossroads of folk, jazz, and classical music.

War Heroes of Color

“Erased: WW2’s Heroes of Color” is a four-episode series that reveals the heroic stories of people of color that have been whitewashed from the greatest conflict in history.

Friday evening at 8:30, the Southampton Arts Center will present a program devoted to the series. Sean David Johnson, an executive producer, will be on hand to present excerpts. The series covers the Battle of the Bulge, Dunkirk, D-Day, and Pearl Harbor.

Mr. Johnson will discuss the project after the screening with Brenda Simmons, executive director of the Southampton African American Museum.

The program is free.

Music at the Temple

The Sag Harbor Masonic Music series will kick off the weekend Friday at 8 p.m. with M Takes the Mic, M being Emily Weitz, a singer-songwriter based in Sag Harbor. Ms. Weitz will be joined by Liz Joyce, banjo and vocals, Kaitlyn Albrecht, vocals, Bosco Michne, lead guitar, and Jeff Marshall, bass.

Hamptons JazzFest will bring the Spike Wilner Trio to the temple on Saturday at 7 p.m. A pianist, bandleader, and club manager, Mr. Wilner has performed with the Artie Shaw Big Band and the Glenn Miller Orchestra, among others. He will be joined by Simon Moullier, an award-winning vibraphonist.

Tickets to each show are $20.

For the Cherry Bombs

The Cherry Bombs, a female-centric local band that brings the best of ‘80s rock, new wave, and pop to the stage, have made it to the quarterfinals of the America’s Next Top Hitmaker competition.

The winning artist or band will appear on a Times Square billboard, perform at the Global Citizens Festival, be featured in Rolling Stone, and win $50,000 in prizes.

Voting for semifinalists ends Thursday at 7 p.m. To vote for the Cherry Bombs, the link is tophitmaker.org/2025/the-cherry-bombs.

Global Music

Next up in the New Music Series at the Arts Center at Duck Creek in Springs is the Camila Cortina Quintet, which will perform next Thursday at 6 p.m.

Camila Cortina Bello is a Cuban-born pianist, composer, educator, and musicologist. Trained in Cuba’s premier conservatories, after performing across Asia she continued her studies at the Berklee College of Music on a full scholarship. She has performed at major festivals worldwide, and has collaborated with Paquito D’Rivera, Miguel Zenon, Dianne Reeves, and many others.

The free concert will move inside in the event of rain.

Benefits

A Jazz Soul Celebration, Latin style, will take place Friday from 5:30 to 9 p.m. under a tent at the Bridgehampton Child Care & Recreational Center. The benefit will include food, drinks, a silent auction, and music from the John Ludlow Bossa Nova Trio, the Sonora Dinamita Band, and D.J. Chile.

Tickets are $500.

“Echoes of the Cosmos,” the Parrish Art Museum’s Midsummer Gala, a dinner and dance, is set for Saturday, starting at 5:30 with a chance to view the exhibitions. Cocktails in the meadow will happen at 6, and a seated dinner and auction will take place at 7:30. The after-party starts at 9.

The honorees are Sandy and Stephen Perlbinder, Sanford Biggers, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, and Nina Yankowitz. Tickets to the dinner start at $2,000; after-party tickets are $250.

The Folly Tree Arboretum in Springs is having Rot Rave, a fund-raiser to support its programs and its growing collection of culturally significant trees, on Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Shenanigans, according to the arboretum, will include larvae racing, goose poop bingo, tree auctions, and other surprises. There will also be pizza, clams, and tree-themed desserts.

Tickets are $155, $40 for kids, and available from follytreearboretum.com.
