East Hampton High School students who are 16 and have their learner's permit can sign up for virtual driver's education classes for $200 for the fall semester. Because of Covid-19, the class does not include the traditional in-person driving lessons, which must now be provided by parents.
"The driving component will not be handled by the school," Adam Fine, East Hampton's assistant superintendent, said during Tuesday's school board meeting. "All schools have been directed to let parents do it. Sorry."
The fall semester can accommodate two sections of 36 students each for the theory classes, as permitted by state law. Mr. Fine said that if circumstances allow, the full program will run in the spring, but that remains to be determined.
