Eleanor Tritt, the interim superintendent of the Sag Harbor School District, resigned Wednesday from her post.

The Sag Harbor School Board accepted her resignation on Wednesday and appointed Jeff Nichols, the principal of Pierson High School, to succeed Ms. Tritt. In her letter, Ms. Tritt said she is resigning “due to personal circumstances.”

“In the short time that Ellie has served as our interim superintendent, she has left an unforgettable imprint on our district, setting an example for everyone through her great leadership, incredible work ethic, open-door approach, and attention to detail,” Jordana Sobey, the school board president, said in a statement. “We wish Ellie all of the best in her future endeavors.”

Mr. Nichols will serve as interim superintendent in addition to high school principal without any additional compensation for the next 30 days. Ms. Tritt will shift to a new position, assistant to the interim superintendent.

“The board of education will take a few days to digest these changes, consider our options, and then will plan to reconvene at a later date to set a path for the district’s leadership after April 19,” Ms. Sobey said.
