Springs School is full of talent, and Lucy Fagerland is one example of that.
Lucy, a fifth grader in Laura Dunham’s class, gets picked up an hour early from school on Wednesdays and Fridays in order to practice gymnastics at the Gymnation Studio in Riverhead.
She has been involved in the sport for five years and recently competed in an international gymnastics competition in Orlando, with great success. She took part in multiple events on the bar, vault, floor, and balance beam. She placed third in bar, fourth on the floor and the beam, and sixth in vault, winning seventh place over all, which is quite an achievement for a fifth grader competing against gymnasts from all over the world.
The Springs Notebook was able to get an interview with Lucy, and she offered some insight about her success. Lucy said there were people from all over the world at her gymnastics competition, including gymnasts from as far away as Brazil and England. Floor is her favorite event, which explains why she placed so well during the competition. Lucy is ecstatic about her win, and can’t wait to compete again.
Even when Lucy doesn’t have gymnastics lessons, she can be found practicing gymnastics at her house every day. The hard work and drive a gymnast needs is truly admirable, and it obviously paid off. She is an inspiration to other Springs kids, showing that if you work hard enough, you can accomplish anything.
