Young Actors on Stage

Children and teens who love the performing arts have many opportunities to study and practice acting over the coming weeks and months.

At the Hampton Ballet Theatre School’s outpost at the Bridgehampton Community House, there are classes on Mondays for three age groups: 4 to 5 p.m. for kids 6 to 8; 5 to 6 p.m. for kids 9 to 12, and 6 to 7:15 for teens 13 to 18. Taught by Kate Mueth of the Neo-Political Cowgirls, the classes emphasize skills, voice work, movement, improv, and theater games, all good for “growing confidence, freedom, and physical life for young students of the stage,” according to an announcement.

The nonprofit Our Fabulous Variety Show, which holds classes at the Most Holy Trinity school building in East Hampton, also offers acting-related classes on Mondays. The lineup includes Page to Stage Club for kids in kindergarten through second grade from 3 to 5 p.m.; musical theater dance at 5 and 6:30 for older kids, and acting for high school students from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

South Fork Performing Arts, another nonprofit, has a black-box musical theater workshop this fall for experienced student actors by audition. “The Prom” is the show. Rehearsals are on Saturdays and Sundays from 2 to 6 p.m.

Fees apply for each of these programs, with scholarships available in some cases. Registration and more information is on each organization’s website.
