Gershon Takes Talks Online

Wed, 04/08/2020 - 21:23

With public gatherings prohibited by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s New York State on PAUSE executive order, Perry Gershon, an East Hampton resident and candidate for the Democratic Party’s nomination to challenge Representative Lee Zeldin in New York’s First Congressional District, has taken his series of town hall-style meetings to cyberspace.

On Monday night, Mr. Gershon, who lost to Mr. Zeldin by four percentage points in the 2018 election, hosted a virtual town hall via videoconference software and Facebook, the eighth of 10 he intends to hold. With him were East Hampton Town Councilman Jeff Bragman, Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman, Brookhaven Town Councilwoman Valerie Cartwright, and two health care professionals.

More than 750 people viewed at least part of the event, Mr. Gershon said on Tuesday, 150 of them for the 90-minute duration. Close to 80 questions from participants were fielded, many of them focused on the Covid-19 pandemic. C.W.
