Drivers to Honk for Transportation Work Force

To show support for transportation workers who are essential employees, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone has encouraged the public to honk their car horns at 3 p.m. on Thursday.

People can also post messages on social media using two particular hashtags, Mr. Bellone said this week: #soundthehorn and #heroesmovingheroes.

Mr. Bellone said the county's bus drivers will also honk their own horns at the time — amounting to about 190 buses at once — to join the ferries, trains, and buses from across the New York and New Jersey metropolitan area.

"Honk those horns in thanks for what they are doing and the sacrifices they have been making as they show up to work and risk contracting the virus," Bellone said. "We have their backs and support them and thank them for what they are doing."

A Newsletter on Being a Jew in Today’s America
