The Sag Harbor Cinema, in collaboration with the village, will screen "Grease," drive-in style, at Havens Beach on June 21, sponsored by the Sag Harbor Partnership.

Drive-in film screenings allow social distancing as well as a big-screen experience.

The 1978 movie was directed by Randal Kleiser as an adaption of the hit Broadway musical. A very meta choice, it could have been screened in some of the drive-in theaters that existed at that time, including the Hamptons Drive-In in Bridgehampton, which closed in the 1980s. It also features a key musical number set at a drive-in.

"Who could have ever imagined that the road to the rebuilding and the reopening of the Sag Harbor Cinema would have included a drive-in phase?" said the cinema's artistic director, Giulia D’Agnolo Vallan. "As a film, 'Grease' kind of encapsulates the spirit of drive-in experience."

Reservations are required and can be made on the cinema's website. Parking opens at 8:30 p.m., and the movie will start at approximately 9.
