Calling all treasure hunters: Gosman's Fish Market is offering a chance to take home a jewel of the sea — a giant pearl, discovered last November while Gosman's chefs were opening clams for New England chowder. It will be raffled off this month, and one might say that not buying a raffle ticket would be "shellfish," as proceeds will go to the Montauk Food Pantry.

The pearl, which is nearly 20 millimeters in diameter with a gray and purple shimmer, is on display at Shipwreck Jewelry in Montauk. Raffle tickets are being sold at Gosman's Fish Market until July 31 for $10 apiece.

From a quahog clam, the pearl is indeed a rare find. Adding to its allure, Rebekah Harris, co-owner of the jewelry store, has said that it is the largest pearl she has ever seen outside of a museum.
