Workshops for Aspiring Podcasters

Tue, 06/27/2023 - 15:22

Ahead of a new podcasting workshop series at LTV Studios, a free introductory session will take place on July 12 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. to introduce people to the basics of this popular type of media. The instructor is Tony Dec, an industry veteran who was the founding co-director of Stony Brook Southampton's Podcast Fellows program and its lead instructor until 2022. An email can be sent to [email protected] to sign up.

The full workshops are "designed to help you tell your stories on an exciting medium that's growing day-to-day," according to an announcement. They are divided into a three-week beginner session starting July 19 and a four-week advanced session starting Aug. 9. The beginner session costs $120 and covers topics like developing ideas into viable concepts, essentials of recording and interviewing, and storytelling "for the ear." The advanced session costs $160, covering editing and mixing sound, adding video, developing a brand, and distribution and marketing.

For the beginner session, participants should have their own iPhone or Android smartphone with a voice-memo recording app and wired over-the-ear headphones. For the advanced session, a laptop and hidenburg.com editing program for Mac or PC, installed ahead of the first class, are required in addition to the voice-memo recording app and headphones.

Registration is online at bit.ly/440XWft or by sending the text message "LTVPODCAST" to 41444.
