Wed, 11/20/2024 - 11:24

Third House Nature Center in Montauk has two programs coming up for people who appreciate and want to engage with their natural environment.

A monthly nature sketchbook club will kick off on Friday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Each participant will create "a year-long sketchbook based on landscape explorations [and] botanical studies of seasonal plant and animal life" with the artist Barbara Thomas, according to the nature center. Open to all levels, it will meet until next summer. Each session costs $50. Registration is by emailing [email protected].

Also at Third House, on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the botanist Daniel Atha will run a free workshop on preserving plant specimens. Participants will learn best practices for selecting, drying, and arranging species as well as labeling and long-term preservation.
