New York State Increases Minimum Wage

Tue, 01/02/2024 - 13:35

It's a happy new year, indeed, for people in New York who earn minimum wage. New York State Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Dec. 27 that the minimum wage for Long Islanders will now be $16 per hour.

The change, which represents a 6.25-percent increase, or $1 per hour, went into effect on Monday, New Year's Day.

“New York’s historic minimum wage increase will help to ensure that New Yorkers can continue to keep pace with rising costs,” Governor Hochul said in an announcement. “Starting Jan. 1, minimum wage workers who do not see the increase reflected in their paychecks are urged to file a complaint with the Department of Labor to make sure that they get the wages they are owed.”
