Serves as a Refuge

East Hampton

October 14, 2019

Dear David,

How fortunate for East Hampton Village that there is the unspoiled 24-acre Nature Trail at its heart. It hums at its own rhythm and to me represents a sort of God-given place, or natural wonder, that simply was meant to be.

Ernie Clark
East Hampton
September 30, 2019

To the Editor,

Ernie Clark passed away last week at 94. Although he moved to Florida quite a few years ago, he touched many lives in East Hampton, particularly mine.

He bought my father’s real estate and insurance company, E.T. Dayton on Main Street, after my father’s death in 1964 when I was 9. I babysat for his only child, Bruce, who died at 18.

September 18, 2019

Dear David:

Sunday, Sept. 15, was the last day of lifeguard services at East Hampton Town beaches. I went to Ditch Plain Beach, where the lifeguard team led by Glen Baietti was working. The town is fortunate to have people of such dedication and commitment working on our beaches.

Just a heads-up as we all start to plan our calendars: Starting this fall, New York voters will have the opportunity to vote early in New York’s general election.

September 5, 2019

Dear David,

East Hampton Meals on Wheels . . . Yes, well, it’s not just the excellent service they provide but the outstanding, caring service. I cannot write enough about how wonderful these people are and what they mean to this 85-year-old lady.

Gratitude
Amagansett
August 26, 2019

Dear David,

I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone in the community who turned out at the Stephen Talkhouse and donated to help raise money for me on Aug. 18. The funds will help me take care of medical bills and help me throughout my recovery.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you.

With love,

East Hampton
August 10, 2019

To the Editor,

With yet another summer season coming to a close, it’s time to indulge in one of our community’s most beloved summer traditions — the East Hampton Fire Department’s annual Main Beach fireworks show. This year’s show will be held this Saturday, Aug. 17, with a rain date of Sunday, the 18th.

Amagansett
August 5, 2019

Dear David,

On behalf of my sisters, Louise and Alice, I would like to thank Tony Littman and the East Hampton Town Parks Department for creating a new and more beautiful Terry King Ball Field sign after the original one had fallen into disrepair.

Vital to All
East Hampton
July 26, 2019

Dear David:

I am just reading your editorial in this week’s East Hampton Star about the poor customer services at Optimum during an outage and entitled “Optimum Outrage.” In it you state, “The internet outage also underlined how miserable cell service is on the East End, and how thin it is, stretched by the population explosion in the summer.”

Dear East Hampton Star,

A little known but wonderful charity, East End 4 Ecuador, is finally closing because it has finished making its financial contributions and because many of its founders have now joined charities that concentrate their work in East Hampton.
