A Springs man arrested on a misdemeanor menacing charge on Nov. 21 was held overnight and arraigned in East Hampton Town Justice Court the following day. John M. Wood, 60, was accused of brandishing an umbrella as a weapon, according to town police. The alleged incident occurred at Mr. Wood’s house on Gardiner Avenue. Yvonne Schellinger, who had had the umbrella waved at her, police said, obtained a court order that Mr. Wood stay away from her and from the house. Matt D’Amato of the Legal Aid Society objected to the order, saying that Mr. Wood had lived in that house since he was a child. About the alleged menacing, Mr. D’Amato said, “She did get up from her bed and followed Mr. Wood, before he grabbed the umbrella.” Mr. Wood was released without bail. In other police news, town police arrested two Amagansett residents on Nov. 21, Juliana E. Nash, 54, and Andrew G. Stenerson, also 54. The two, a former couple, were charged with violating orders of protection against each other. Both were released without bail on the misdemeanor charges, though from different locations — Mr. Stenerson from police headquarters, Ms. Nash from Justice Court.
