Amagansett
An “entangled seal,” possibly in netting, was reported on the beach off Marine Boulevard last Thursday morning. Police were able to disentangle it, and it moved away.
East Hampton
A downed tree was blocking Swamp Road near Bull Path on Saturday morning. Police were able to move it so that one lane was usable, and the Highway Department finished the job.
On April 2, a drunken driver caused damage to a tree and an irrigation line on Hand’s Creek Road. A resident of the road reported details of the damage to police Saturday night, for insurance purposes.
An attendant at the Gulf station on North Main Street called police on April 5 to say that a woman had pumped 11.9 gallons of gas and driven off, headed toward Springs, without paying. Officers searched but were unable to find her.
Still catching up with months-old incidents on the police blotter: On Dec. 17, a bookkeeper on Muir Boulevard reported multiple forged checks, starting last June, when he issued a check for $692.99 that was cashed three days later. In December it was somehow duplicated, and cashed again, twice, once on Dec. 2 and again on Dec. 12. On Dec. 16, the person tried cashing yet another false check, but that time the bank caught it. There are no suspects, and the investigation remains active.
Montauk
A coyote was spotted in the vicinity of Hither Hills State Park on the morning of April 7. The man who reported it said he was worried about the safety of neighborhood pets.
A downed cable on South Edgemere Street was called in to police Friday afternoon. Officers reported that it appeared to have been cut intentionally, and left hanging by the pole.
A woman flagged down police in the morning of March 29 and reported her husband missing. He was gone that morning when she awoke, she said, gone and though he “frequently walks into town or to the beach,” she could not find him. Multiple officers were called in. A drone was eventually used in the search, and the man was spotted walking up a neighbor’s driveway. He was brought home unharmed and not requiring medical attention.
Sag Harbor
Responding to an April 7 fire alarm at the Corcoran building on Main Street, police found water dripping from a ceiling onto the carpet. All appeared normal at the business upstairs, and at an adjoining apartment as well. A caretaker was notified, and shut off the water supply to the building, which stopped the leak.
Someone stole her identity and used it to open a credit card in her name, a woman told police on Friday afternoon. She discovered it when Citibank inquired about an outdated balance of $8,303.62 and advised her to have the theft documented.
The owner of Illusions reported on Friday night that three kids had taken $233 worth of jewelry from the store without paying. Two were still in the store when police arrived; the third was found across the street. Everything was returned to the owner, who declined to press charges.
A dog bed caught fire in a Franklin Avenue house Friday night, but the homeowner was able to put it out just before police and firefighters arrived.
Springs
A Kingstown Avenue man, at home on the evening of April 9, noticed that part of his front screen door had been shattered, apparently by a pellet gun, and called police. It was determined that he’d accidentally discharged his own pellet gun, and the BB ricocheted and struck the window. Officers advised him to use caution in the future.
