Update, 3:50 p.m.: East Hampton Town police released the name of the man found dead near Coast Guard Station Montauk on Friday morning. He was identified as Julio Tubatan, a 57-year-old who lived in Montauk.

According to police, he was found floating in Montauk Harbor, just off the shores of the station on Star Island at 7:23 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are not releasing any further information at this time. Anyone with information regarding the investigation is being asked to contact town police at 631-537-7575.

Originally, 2:39 p.m.: East Hampton Town police are investigating the circumstances behind the death of a man whose body was found washed up on a beach area on Star Island in Montauk about 7 a.m. Friday.

"The body was found right behind our station," Petty Officer First Class Ryan O'Hare of Coast Guard Station Montauk said Friday afternoon. A Coast Guard officer found the body.

An investigation led by the East Hampton Town police is ongoing. The Suffolk County medical examiner's office is involved.

East Hampton Town detectives were seen examining and photographing a late model black Lexus parked in the lot by Swallow East and Salivar's in the dock area of Montauk. The area was restricted, with crime scene tape being posted around the car. The car was then impounded and towed away. It is unclear whether the two investigations are related.

The man's identity has not been released. Town Police Chief Michael Sarlo would not comment further on the incident Friday afternoon, as the investigation continued.
