Cabbie Gets Day in Court

Thu, 05/23/2019 - 06:39

A taxi driver in Montauk who received a parking ticket on Memorial Day weekend and wound up with additional charges will have his day in court next month. Geni J. Berrios, 36, who is from Yonkers, had a date on one of the charges in East Hampton Town Justice Court on Monday but won an adjournment after the town prosecutor, NancyLynne Thiele, asked that all the charges be heard on the same date.

Mr. Berrios had parked his car outside Sloppy Tuna on May 28 and left it unattended. A traffic control officer wrote a ticket for the 2007 green Dodge Caravan, which is operated by Hampton Ride, but when Mr. Berrios returned to the vehicle and saw the ticket, he allegedly became enraged, tore it to pieces, and threw it to the ground. A nearby town marine officer then charged the cabbie with littering and unlawfully disposing of a summons.

East Hampton Town Justice Steven Tekulsky set July 19 as Mr. Berrios’s day in court.
