A Couple of Arrests At Busy Montauk Nightspots

Thu, 05/23/2019 - 06:38

East Hampton Town police made two arrests stemming from incidents that began at two busy Montauk nightspots on two consecutive days, which resulted in two orders of protection during arraignments this week.

A $150 cab ride from the Surf Lodge to a house in East Hampton’s Northwest Woods in the early hours of July 30 led to an altercation and the arrest of a passenger. “I was unhappy with the price of the taxi,” Mark N. Campisano, 30, of Manhattan, told the arresting officer.

The Mat Taxi company driver, Jasim Uddin, of Jamaica, Queens, told police he had picked up six revelers and had told them the price in advance. When they got to 14 Wigwam View Lane, five of the passengers got out of the taxi, leaving Mr. Campisano to pay up.

According to the cab driver, Mr. Campisano  shoved him, then tried three times to punch him in the face, before grabbing Mr. Uddin’s Bluetooth and his keys. He added that Mr. Campisano then threw a $100 bill at the driver, using a racial epithet, before going inside the house.

Mr. Campisano admitted taking the Bluetooth and the keys, police said, and returned them along with an additional $50. He was charged with petty larceny, a misdemeanor, and harassment as a violation. He was arraigned by East Hampton Town Justice Steven Tekulsky later that morning on July 30, who issued an order of protection for the cabbie, before setting bail at $250. “I’m sorry,” Mr. Campisano said to Justice Tekulsky. Bail was posted.

The incident at the other Montauk bar and restaurant took place on the evening of July 30 and resulted in a single charge of harassment.

According to police, a manager at Navy Beach on Navy Road, Daniel Michael Mundo, asked a Montauk man, Toby J. Logue, 42, to leave at around 8:30 p.m. “I was told to leave, so I pushed him,” Mr. Logue told the arresting officer. He was held overnight, with an order of protection for the manager issued during his Aug. 1 arraignment.   Mr. Logue was released without bail.
