Couples’ Confrontations

Thu, 05/23/2019 - 06:33

A Manorville man was arrested last week after he pulled out a box cutter and threatened his wife in front of their daughter, Sag Harbor Village police said.

According to the report, David W. Cooley, who owns a pool company, started an argument with his wife when she dropped off a pool cover at a house on Brandywine Drive on Oct. 22 at about 10:15 a.m.

While his wife was zipping up her daughter’s coat, Mr. Cooley, 44, began cursing, police said. His wife, whose name was withheld, said there has been ongoing tension between them. After a short back and forth, he pulled out the box cutter and pointed it at his wife and said, “I’m going to hurt you if you don’t leave,” the report said.

His wife reported the incident later and Mr. Cooley was arrested on Oct. 23 at 2:05 p.m. He was charged with second-degree menacing, a misdemeanor. Sag Harbor Village Justice Lisa R. Rana released him on his own recognizance. Child Protective Services was notified.

Meanwhile, East Hampton Town police arrested two men on charges of violating court orders earlier this month.

Police said Ismael C. Penafiel, 31, of East Hampton violated an order of protection when he went to a house on Oakview Highway on Sept. 30 at about 5:30 a.m., which he was supposed to stay away from. Mr. Penafiel also allegedly called the victim, whose name was not released, several times on a private number on Oct. 16 and 17.

He was charged with second-degree criminal contempt, a misdemeanor, on Oct. 23. Justice Rana, who also serves as an East Hampton Town justice, released him on $7,500 bail on Oct. 24, following his arraignment.

Carlos Edwardo Peralta, 58, of Springs allegedly stopped in front of a house on Oct. 24 at about 9 p.m. and from within his vehicle pointed his finger and taunted a woman who had an order of protection against him. He was arrested at a house on Oakview Highway last Thursday at 2:20 a.m. Charged with criminal contempt, he was held for morning arraignment. Justice Rana released him on his own recognizance.
