Thu, 05/23/2019 - 06:26

East Hampton Town police arrested an apparent drunken driver in the early morning hours on Saturday in Springs. An officer saw a 2016 Ford F-250 heading south on Three Mile Harbor Road near Fort Pond Boulevard when the driver failed to signal turning left around 2:50 a.m., according to a report.

Behind the wheel was Rodrigo G. Quizhpi, 42, of East Hampton, who appeared to be intoxicated and performed poorly on all field sobriety tests, police said. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, at 3:15 a.m.

East Hampton Town Justice Steven Tekulsky arraigned him later on Saturday morning and released him on his own recognizance.

An 18-year-old from Springs was arrested on a drug charge on Saturday afternoon after he was pulled over on Three Mile Harbor Road near Neighborhood House Road in East Hampton. Police said they found two oval pills stamped “Watson 853,” which were identified as acetaminophen and hydrocodone bitartrate, a controlled substance, in a container in his vehicle. His name was not released because he is eligible for youthful offender status.

He was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor, and possession of a controlled substance in a non-original container, a violation. He was released with an appearance ticket and $200 bail and is due in Justice Court on April 4.

In another traffic stop, Nicholas Russell Raynor, 20, of Riverhead was charged with displaying a forged certificate of inspection, a misdemeanor, on Sunday evening on Montauk Highway in Montauk near South Dearborn Place. Police said they found a 2019 New York State inspection sticker on a 2012 Ford that was meant for a 2015 Toyota. Mr. Raynor was released on his own recognizance and is due back in court on April 10.
