One of three drivers charged over the weekend with drunken driving was treated at Southampton Hospital for a fractured leg following her arrest. East Hampton Town police said a 2004 Pontiac driven by Melissa A. Steele of Fort Pond Boulevard, Springs, 33, crossed into oncoming traffic on Springs-Fireplace Road late Friday night and collided with a 2013 Ford van. The van’s driver, Jorge Ordonez Sandoval of Amagansett, suffered cuts and bruises and was taken to the hospital as well. Both have since been released. The crash occurred near School Street in Springs a little before midnight. Police reported that when they first questioned Ms. Steele she told them she had rear-ended the van after it stopped short. However, they said, damage to the vehicles was inconsistent with that account; it appeared that the Pontiac had veered across the double-yellow line and sideswiped the oncoming van. Ms. Steele appeared intoxicated when questioned, police said. At the hospital, she refused to consent to a test to determine the level of alcohol in her blood. She was convicted in 2008 of driving while intoxicated, making Friday’s charge a felony. She will be arraigned today in East Hampton Town Justice Court. Wilson Efren Ordonez of East Hampton, 37, was pulled over on Three Mile Harbor-Hog Creek Road, on the other side of Springs, at almost exactly the same time as Ms. Steele was being arrested. Police said they spotted his 2004 Chevrolet swerving repeatedly across the traffic lines. He too has a prior conviction on a charge of D.W.I. At police headquarters, his breath test produced a reported reading of 0.21, high enough to raise the charge against him to a more serious aggravated felony level. He faces an additional count of driving without a required ignition interlock device. Mr. Efren Ordonez was arraigned on Saturday morning and eventually released after posting $7,500 bail. Flavio R. Zhinin of Springs, 26, is the third person facing a felony charge, though in his case it is not alcohol-related. His 2006 Audi was pulled over on Three Mile Harbor-Hog Creek Road Sunday afternoon for speeding, police said. The prior D.W.I. charge against Mr. Zhinin was reduced to driving with ability impaired, a violation, meaning the new one remains a misdemeanor. But, because he never got a new driver’s license after his license was suspended following the earlier incident, he was charged Sunday with felony unlicensed driving. Bail was set at $750, which was posted. Police said that Mr. Zhinin had refused to take the breath test at headquarters.
