Former Anchor Is Charged

Thu, 05/23/2019 - 07:12

There were two drunken-driving arrests in Sag Harbor over the Labor Day weekend, though none in the week since, either there or anywhere in East Hampton.

On the afternoon of Sept. 4, the start of the holiday weekend, Felicia R. Taylor’s 2015 Chrysler was pulled over on Main Street after sideswiping a 2015 Nissan while making a right turn from Long Island Avenue. Asked to exit her car, Ms. Taylor, 51, of Manhattan, a former CNN anchorwoman, was described by police as being very unsteady on her feet.

At Sag Harbor Village police headquarters, she took a breath test, which reportedly showed a blood-alcohol level of 0.30, so high that police took her to Southampton Hospital as a precautionary measure. She was released after a few hours and held at headquarters overnight for a morning arraignment. Justice Lisa R. Rana released her without bail but with a future date on her criminal calendar.

Ms. Taylor’s lawyer, Edward Burke Jr., disputed the results of the breath test in a phone conversation on Tuesday.

On Sept. 1, Patrick A. French, 37, of Sag Harbor, was found on Archibald Way passed out behind the wheel of a 2009 Chevrolet, engine running. He was said by police to be too intoxicated to perform standard roadside sobriety tests.

Back at headquarters, he refused to take the breath test. He too was freed in the morning without bail, but will be expected in Sag Harbor Village Justice Court at a future date.

911 Switch Is Delayed

When contract negotiations for 911 dispatching broke down between East Hampton Town and Village last spring, it became clear that the East Hampton Town Police Department would begin taking the bulk of 911 calls in the township from the village. The turnover was to occur on Jan. 1, but it has now been delayed for at least a month.
