His Third Road Rage Arrest

Thu, 05/23/2019 - 07:11

A Springs man who had been arrested at least twice previously on charges stemming from road rage incidents was charged again on Aug. 15.

Russell Daub, 57, driving a 2011 gold Honda on Abraham’s Path near Accabonac Road in East Hampton, aimed the car straight at John Ebel’s 2003 Dodge, forcing it off to the side of the road, according to East Hampton Town police. It appears from the report that the two men had exchanged words near Three Mile Harbor Road, after which Mr. Daub began pursuing the Dodge. He was charged with reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor, and harassment.

In 2012, The Star reported that “Russell Daub, 53, of East Hampton, the driver of the truck, suddenly whipped it onto the shoulder, passed Ms. Schellinger, cut her off, and slammed on his brakes, according to two witnesses. Ms. Schellinger hit her brakes and came to a stop to avoid contact with the truck, at which point Mr. Daub allegedly threw it into reverse and slammed into the front end of the Jeep.” Mr. Daub was ultimately convicted on a misdemeanor charge of reckless endangerment, and did jail time.

In 2010, Mr. Daub was arrested after an East Hampton Village police officer saw him ram another vehicle. He was indicted by a grand jury; the case was handled at the county level and its outcome could not be learned.

After the Aug. 15 arrest, he posted $200 bail at police headquarters and was released. He is scheduled for arraignment in East Hampton Town Justice Court on Wednesday.
