AmagansettA male suspect swiped two 12-ounce bottles of Corona Light from Brent’s General Store on Montauk Highway on Sunday evening. The manager, David Winthrop, called police at about 7:20 p.m., to say the man had left the store without paying for them. Mr. Winthrop did not press charges, but wanted it documented that the man was no longer allowed in the store. East Hampton A 16-year-old East Hampton High School student reported her wallet stolen from the girl’s locker room at the Long Lane school on Jan. 14. She said that at about 1:45 p.m. she placed her Michael Kors wallet, worth $168 and containing $40 in cash and a New York State learner’s permit, in her locked locker. The report did not say whether there was damage to the lock. Antonena H. Cariello called police on Saturday to report the driver’s side rear tire of her 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser was slashed on Jan. 15. Her car had been parked on Hickory Court, where she works, and she said she drove for about one mile before realizing the tire was flat. The AAA mechanic who replaced the tire said it looked as if it had been slashed with a sharp object. Police said the tire had dry rot and had sustained heavy damage after being used on the road. East Hampton VillageA Sag Harbor man was driving on Montauk Highway near the Highway Restaurant, when he noticed smoke from the bed of his 2002 Chevrolet Silverado on Jan. 16 at about 3:20 p.m. He pulled over, called 911, and removed everything from the bed of the truck. He believes the muffler on a leaf blower that was in the back was touching some garbage and caused the small fire. There was no damage. While walking on the shoreline between Wiborg’s Beach and the Main Beach jetty last Thursday between 4 and 5 in the afternoon, a 72-year-old woman said two dogs ran up to her and one bit her shoe and caused her to fall over. She was not injured and there was only a small rip in her shoe. She described the dogs as mutts, one black and one brown. Their owner was driving on the beach while the dogs ran loose. She filed a report the next day. A pickup truck hit a deer on Montauk Highway near Stephen Hand’s Path on Saturday morning around 11:30, but did not stop. Another driver called police when he saw the deer was severely injured. Police put it out of its misery. Police were called to the lighted pedestrian crosswalk in front of Sam’s restaurant on Newtown Lane on Saturday afternoon because the lights did not appear to be working. As it turned out, they were working, but could not be seen by traffic because, police said, they had been pushed below eye level into the ground over time. The company that maintains the lights was to be contacted.
